Know your Miqat. Begin with intention.
Your route determines your Miqat. Prepare early and enter Ihram before you cross it.
Qafila guide · pages 12–18Confirm the actual route
Discuss your flight and itinerary with the group leader and crew. The Miqat is determined by the route, not by nationality. Prepare your Ihram clothing before reaching it.
If you travel through Jeddah to Makkah
The guide describes entering Ihram in the air when the Ethiopia–Jeddah route aligns with Yalamlam. Confirm the actual crossing with the crew; if your flight aligns with another Miqat, follow that route. Do not wait until landing in Jeddah.
If you visit Madinah first
After the Madinah visit, enter Ihram at Dhul-Hulayfah, also called Abyar Ali, when you set out for Makkah. Confirm the itinerary with your leader.
Intend Umrah in your heart
Intend to begin the rites of Umrah, then begin the Talbiyah. The words below are the guide’s example wording for answering the call to Umrah.
The five Miqat locations
- Dhul-Hulayfah (Abyar Ali): the Madinah direction.
- Al-Juhfah / Rabigh: the direction of al-Sham, Egypt, and the Maghrib.
- Qarn al-Manazil (al-Sayl al-Kabir): the Najd direction.
- Yalamlam (al-Sa‘diyah): the Yemen direction.
- Dhat ‘Irq: the Iraq direction. These locations also apply to others who pass through their directions.
Read. Understand. Remember.
