Walk with purpose, from Safa to Marwah.
Begin at Safa after Tawaf. Complete seven one-way journeys and finish at Marwah.
Qafila guide · pages 42–48Begin at Safa
On first approaching Safa, read the verse about Safa and Marwah in Quran 2:158. Face the Qiblah, raise your hands for du‘a, praise Allah, and say takbir. The guide explains the remembrance below.
Count each one-way journey
Safa to Marwah is one; Marwah back to Safa is two. Continue until the seventh journey ends at Marwah. Do not count the outward and return journeys together as one.
Walk calmly; observe the green markers
Men who are able move briskly between the two green markers and walk normally elsewhere. Women walk normally throughout. Running the whole route is not required.
Remember Allah and make du‘a
At Safa and Marwah, repeat the remembrance three times with du‘a in between, as explained in the guide. Reflect on Hajar’s effort and trust in Allah.
A note for women
- The guide explains that a woman whose period begins after a valid Tawaf may perform Sa‘i. Sa‘i should not be brought before Tawaf. Confirm individual circumstances with the religious guide.
Sa’i
Count only after completing each circuit or one-way journey.

Remembrance at Safa and Marwah
There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and praise, and He has power over all things. He fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and defeated the confederates alone.
